LOVE YOUR HEART: STRESS TESTING
WHAT IS A STRESS TEST?
A stress test (or stress ECG) is a test performed to measure your heart's health under the stress of physical activity. A stress test is performed if you are suspected of having heart disease. Additionally, everyone above the age of 40 should have a stress test performed at least once in 5 years to detect latent coronary artery disease. The stress test helps determine how fit you are, whether a heart problem exists and if it is safe for you to undertake an exercise program.
GETTING READY FOR A STRESS TEST
You should be fasting for 2-3 hours before the test.
Do not smoke or drink tea or coffee before the test since they stimulate the heart,
Your chest may have to be shaved.
Medication: consult your doctor, since he might wish to avoid some medicines before performing the test.
It is better to have someone to accompany you when you go for the test.
